Description
Crispy on the outside, soft and airy on the inside, these Nutella-stuffed churros are the ultimate homemade treat. Rolled in cinnamon sugar and filled with melty hazelnut chocolate, they taste just like the fairground classic—only better!
Ingredients
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
2 tablespoons granulated sugar (plus ½ cup for coating)
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1 cup all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups neutral oil (vegetable or canola, for frying)
½ cup Nutella (warmed for filling)
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine butter, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
Add flour all at once and stir vigorously until the dough forms a smooth ball that pulls away from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well until the dough is smooth and glossy.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F.
Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 4–6 inch strips into hot oil, cutting with scissors. Fry until golden brown, 2–3 minutes per side.
Drain on paper towels, then roll immediately in cinnamon-sugar mixture (½ cup sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon).
Fill a piping bag with warmed Nutella. Insert the tip into each end of the churros and gently squeeze until filled.
Serve warm, with extra Nutella on the side if desired.
Notes
For a caramel twist, swap Nutella with dulce de leche.
Churros are best fresh but can be reheated in a 350°F oven for 5–7 minutes.
Dough can be frozen (piped onto parchment) and fried straight from the freezer.
